Reviews for the LG Gram 14 14T990-U.AAS8U1, 2-in-1

80% LG Gram 14 2-in-1 (2020) review
Source: Laptop Mag English Archive.org version
The only major knock against the Gram 14 is its poor speakers, something easily rectified with a good pair of headphones or a Bluetooth speaker. And if I'm nitpicking, the Gram 14 is a bit pricey and there is no place to store the included stylus. If those issues matter to you, the Lenovo ThinkPad C940 is the perfect alternative to the Gram. If not, then the Gram 14 2-in-1 is an excellent option.

86% LG gram 14 2-in-1 Review (2019)

In the end, the LG Gram 14 2-in-1 isn’t a perfect computer for any specific crowd, but its features, overall quality and recent price change ($1199 from $1499), make it a generally attractive option, depending on your needs (lightweight, 2-in-1, Pen, Mil-STD-810G).

LG Gram 2-in-1 review: A convertible laptop with plenty to like
Source: Good Gear Guide English Archive.org version
While the LG Gram 2-in-1’s keyboard, trackpad, and speakers are weak spots, this is overall an enjoyable laptop to use thanks to its spacious screen, long battery life, and light weight. It’s probably not a great fit for a desktop replacement, but it’s excellent as a travel companion. The included stylus is a nice touch for drawing, writing, and marking up documents, even if there’s no place to put it. If you’re okay with dropping $1,500 for all that, the LG Gram 2-in-1 could be the convertible for you.

80% LG Gram 2 in 1 Review
Source: Trusted Reviews English Archive.org version
As a laptop, the Gram takes all the fantastic features of the standard 14-inch model. You get a cracking keyboard, super-powered CPU performance and a solid display, even if it is a little warmer than I’d like this time around. The underwhelming GPU performance will scare away creatives and gamers, but if you want a device for simple day-to-day tasks the Gram is easily capable enough for the job.

LG gram 14 2-in-1 review: The lightest 14-inch convertible
Source: Neowin English Archive.org version
The LG gram 14 2-in-1 is a 2.53-pound convertible with a Core i7-8565U, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD for $1,499, which is a solid deal. It's the lightest 14-inch convertible around, and it makes few compromises in terms of functionality, with its U-series processor, selection of ports, and more.

LG Gram 2 in 1 first look: a classy convertible
Source: Trusted Reviews English Archive.org version
While many laptops simply don’t work as a convertible since they’re heavy enough to dislocate your wrist with single-hand use, the LG Gram 2 in 1 fits the bill perfectly thanks to its ultra-light design and compact form.

LG Gram 14 2-in-1 initial review: Taking LG's laptops to the next level
Source: Pocket Lint English Archive.org version
Bringing another option to LG's laptop range, a 2-in-1 was an inevitable move for LG as it seeks to gain more of a foothold in the laptop market. We like it a lot, but there are other super laptop options around for the same money or less.

Series:

LG introduced its Gram laptop to the world four years ago with the intention to produce notebook as featherweight as possible. With the same noble intention of making it as light as possible, LG has brought forward its 2020 Gram lineup into the market. The extremely light weight of the laptops is due to the fact that the laptops are built with a specially designed, innovative magnesium-alloy frame. Apart from the light weight, this new series has also retained its Gram’s hallmark feature by retaining the svelte form factor. However, this new 2020 series has gone through quite a number of upgrades to cater for the high price tag.

The new Gram series has been introduced with four models which ranges from 14 inches to 17 inches display size along with a 2-in-1 system embedded within it. This opens the possibility for users to choose the best model which caters the individual’s preference and personal interest. As far as the battery capability is concerned, it should be noted that the 14 inches model has retained a similar battery size as the Gram series predecessor which is 72Watt-hour battery. While the 15 inches and 17 inches model cater an 80Watt-hour battery, the 14 inches model is believed to be able to operate at its best with the smaller battery due to its smaller display size. As for the 80 Watt-hour battery, LG claimed that it can provide 17 to 18.5 hours battery life after full charging. However, the real experience with the battery longevity still needs some testing in real-time with real user experience.

Despite the varying battery sizes, all four models of the Gram 2020 laptops have been enhanced with a ‘Mega Cooling’ thermal management system. This is known to be able to improvise the entire user experience and the overall performance of the models. The 17 inches model is incorporated with 16GB of RAM while the other models comes in with 8GB of RAM. The 17 inches model do have some variation due to its bigger display size. Even with the display resolution, the 17 inches sports a 2560 x 1600 display while the other models carry 1920 x 1080 display. This will obviously cater for different viewing quality and user’s viewing pleasure as well. But again, the experience itself is entirely subjective depending on the taste and interest of the individual involved.

In addition to the ones mentioned above, the Gram 2020 lineups also feature Wi-Fi 6 and Thunderbolt 3 port. While some might not consider the inclusion of Thunderbolt 3 a must, those who are gamers at heart would definitely rejoice with this addition in the laptop built. The reason being is that Thunderbolt 3 allows the connection to a more powerful external GPU which is worthwhile when it comes to gaming needs for some users. So, the Gram 2020 series can cater for both personal and professional use as well.

Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2, 24 EUs) found on some Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU models (15 W ULV series). Technically identical to the previous Kaby-Lake GPU called HD Graphics 620.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

i7-8565U: Whiskey Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Kaby Lake but produced in a further improved 14nm++ process). The four cores are clocked between 1.8 and 4.6 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

14.00":

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.

The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.

LG:

LG Electronics Inc. is a subsidiary of LG Group. It is a South Korean company and was founded as Goldstar Co, Ltd, in 1958. The group offers products in the fields of information technology, consumer electronics and mobile communications, and home appliances. LG Electronics is the world's third largest home appliance manufacturer. As a notebook manufacturer, LG only became known to a wider audience in the German-speaking market in 2005. After a few years, LG largely withdrew from the laptop sector. The product range includes OLED, LED/LCD and plasma TVs, home theater systems, Blu-ray players as well as audio and video players.

81.5%: This rating is slightly above average, there are somewhat more devices with worse ratings. However, clear purchase recommendations look different.
