Reviews for the HP EliteBook x360 1040 G7, i7-10810U
Like the HP Dragonfly or Spectre series, the EliteBook x360 1040 G7 is one of the sleekest laptops for its size and category. Internally, however, the old Intel 10th gen Comet Lake-U processor is holding back the system from performing as well as most of the latest Ultrabooks in the market.

But without question, the biggest hurdle I face with recommending the EliteBook 1040 G7 is the pricing. This thing is crazy-expensive. If you want a decent config, you'll spend $2,000 and if you get the one you really want, be ready to shell out $3,000. Now, if you're a Fortune 500 company looking to equip its workforce with a head-turning business notebook that performs as good as it looks, then start massaging those budgets to buy a fleet of these.

It competes in an exceptionally crowded market, however, which means that its few drawbacks draw outsize attention. Although its list price isn't necessarily higher than that of a comparable Latitude or ThinkPad convertible, it's still painful when you consider that you can get an equivalent consumer-focused 2-in-1, minus vPro and a few frills, for nearly $1,000 less. The persistent fan noise is also a slight mark against. Nevertheless, the EliteBook x360 1040 G7 occupies a firm perch among the better business convertibles you can buy.

The last time I reviewed an EliteBook x360 1040, I said that it was nearly perfect. It still is. I do have one new complaint, which is that by now, we should all be using USB 3.2 Gen 2 and HDMI 2.0. There really isn't an excuse for USB 3.2 Gen 1 anymore, especially on the premium tier. I'd also love to see some of the color options that we have on HP's consumer laptops.

HP’s latest attempt is something called Presence Aware on the EliteBook 1040, which lets the machine know when you’re in front of it and dim the screen when you leave or wake up when you return. There’s also a new AI noise reduction tool to make your voice sound clearer on calls.

Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2, 24 EUs) found on some Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU models (15 W ULV series). Technically identical to the previous Kaby-Lake GPU called HD Graphics 620.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.

In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.
88.32%: This is an above-average rating. Nevertheless, it should not be forgotten that about one fifth of all tested models receive a better rating.
