Huawei has now released another update for the Watch 3 series for models sold outside China. As Huawei Central first reported, the Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro are now eligible for firmware version 3.0.0.159 (C605E2R1P2), which appears to be approximately a 259 MB download. For reference, Huawei typically distributes software updates in batches. Hence, it could take a few weeks before firmware version 3.0.0.159 reaches some regions.
Based on the screenshot below, the HarmonyOS 3-derived build does not bring major changes to the Watch 3 or the Watch 3 Pro. For some reason, Huawei has not included the usual references to mysterious bug fixes and optimisations either. Instead, it seems that firmware version 3.0.0.159 only improves system security by way of an April 2023 security update.
Purportedly, the new firmware for the Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro addresses CVE-2022-48314, a vulnerability that allowed the user confirmation to be bypassed when pairing a new Bluetooth device. This month's update can be downloaded through the Huawei Health app, although only when the Watch 3 or Watch 3 Pro is at over 50% charge.
