The HP Victus 16 is a good option for everyday gaming if you don’t want to spend lots of money; the RTX 3060, AMD Ryzen 7 5800H and 16.1in screen see to that. But the budget bites elsewhere, with disappointing colour quality from the display and a chassis that’s heavy and a bit too weak.

The deal with Victus 16 is simple. The price tag justifies everything you would need to have a smooth gaming experience. There are some additional positives that can help you in a big way, like the speakers and the heat management system. Still, the laptop has slight room for improvement in areas like display and performance. So it sits nicely in the space wherein you need a potent gaming laptop but do not want to shell the top bucks for a premium offering. However, in case you want a gaming laptop that is well on your budget and can serve as an all-rounder for your regular work too, the HP Victus 16 will fit as an ideal product in your plan.

In my HP Victus 16 review, the laptop performed admirably in terms of performance and graphics, but it falls short in terms of build quality and battery life. I didn’t care for the laptop’s keyboard, and the fans frequently muffled the speakers. This was not a well-rounded laptop, in my opinion. The fact that the Victus is a beast under the hood remains unaffected. The primary use-case for a gaming laptop is ‘gaming,’ and the Victus excels in this regard. It’s, without a doubt, one of the most capable mid-range laptops I’ve seen this year. The fact that you can immediately undervolt the CPU from the software makes everything even better. There are a few things about the Victus that I’d change, but performance isn’t one of them. The Victus 16 isn’t inexpensive, but it makes few compromises in terms of performance, earning it a strong recommendation. You can’t go wrong with the Victus 16 if you’re looking for a mid-range powerhouse and are willing to make a few concessions.

Review of the HP Victus 16 and comparing it to the HP Omen 15. The Victus is a nice gaming laptop that performs very well for the price but it's not perfect. Hopefully this will help you make the decision between the Omen 15 or Victus 16.

HP's Victus 16 is a surprisingly robust and powerful gaming laptop that keeps up with the latest games at a more affordable price. For the uninitiated, Victus is HP's line of gaming-focused laptops that have slightly less power than the Omen series, but are more budget-friendly. It offers a respectable amount of power at a relatively low price with four models ranging from $810 to $1,250.

The HP Victus 16 is undoubtedly a beefy machine with an understated aesthetic that might not be everyone’s cup of tea. However, looks aside, the Victus 16 performs like a champ and the device comes toting a gorgeous 144Hz display too. Now, I think the hinge mechanism should’ve offered better resistance, and the speakers could’ve been louder as well. Be that as it may, for the price, the Victus 16 is a good option for a budget of under Rs 1,25,000.

In the end, how much you like the Victus is going to depend on you prioritize the gaming and laptop aspects of your gaming laptop. If your emphasis is on gaming, the Victus can push out some impressive graphics for not too much money. In fact, I’d say the Victus really shines when used as a kind of budget gaming desktop. Though the design is stark, I think it’s a handsome gaming machine. And if you plug in a good keyboard and mouse it's not bad for getting things done, either, especially when hooked up to an external display for an impromptu two-monitor setup. Once I’d plugged in my mouse, keyboard, headphones, second monitor and ethernet cable though, it felt pretty silly calling this a laptop. Whenever I tried to use the Victus as an actual portable computer, some design misstep or missing feature made me long to plug it back into the half-dozen peripherals that made it fun to use. If you’re judging by pure performance, the Victus delivers a pretty good showing for its price.

HP's Victus 16 clearly offers substantial value as a budget gaming notebook. The AU$2,299 price tag is worth applauding, especially with supply-chain woes gnawing at profit margins and availability. However, HP clearly sacrificed some of the bling of rival notebooks to deliver a no-nonsense gaming PC for users who care about what's on the screen rather than under their fingers. Laptops that can do dual-duty for work and play are worth highlighting, too. To be fair, we'd probably award the Victus 16 an Editor's Choice award if not for the substantial contributions of the Asus ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition and Acer Predator Triton 500 SE, both of which deliver spectacular performance and a higher-resolution screen with better refresh rates. Yet both notebooks also cost a few hundreds of dollars more. If that matters, the Victus 16 is a more budget-friendly option. Of these notebooks we've tested, we think it's fair to day that we'd recommend the ROG Strix G15, the Triton 500SE, and the Victus 16.

The Victus by HP is their new line of gaming laptops that sits below the HP Omen and above the Pavilion Gaming laptops. This is a midrange gaming PC whose price and strong availability make it worth consideration. It’s available with AMD Ryzen and Intel 11th gen 45 watt CPUs and has NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti or RTX 3060 graphics. It’s a solid 1080p gamer and is in fact available with 16.1” 1080p and QHD display options. It has two M.2 SSD slots, 2 RAM slots, a very good cooling system and a style, understated look. Pricing starts at $799.

The HP Victus 16 is a legitimate contender in the medium-priced gaming market. It’s well-equipped and performs admirably. Its chassis, although a bit too bendable, isn’t too large to carry around. HP struck a nice balance with the Victus 16. And now, the company has a genuine gaming brand sitting beneath the Omen lineup that should better entice gamers with less money to spend. The HP Victus 16 is a competent gaming performer for the price in a comfortable chassis.

The Victus 16 is a midrange laptop freshly introduced by HP in the budget gaming market. In our review we did an unboxing of the unit, a full disassembly while we presented all upgrade options. There are some gaming benchmarks and synthetic benchmarks. Our review unit is rocking an RTX 3000 series dedicated graphics card alongside an AMD Ryzen 5000 series CPU.

To be honest, HP tried to pull a sneaky on us all. From what we found, it looks like the Victus 16 is a rebranded Pavilion Gaming 16, with only the keyboard being a bit different. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but we can’t say that the aforementioned Pavilion was a super high-quality machine. Then again, there is the I/O. Although it looks pretty extensive, boasting an RJ-45 connector, HDMI connector, three USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, and an SD card reader, the USB Type-C port was only matching the 3.2 (Gen. 1) speeds of the Type-A ones. Of course, with the AMD chipset, Thunderbolt connectivity is out of the question, however, we would have loved to see 3.2 (Gen. 2) speed of the Type-C port. At the end of the day, the Victus 16 (16-e0000) doesn’t seem to be a bad entry-level gaming laptop. Its price is pretty compelling, and the RTX 3050 is a viable solution, for most of the AAA titles out there, even though it is the baseline ray-traced model from NVIDIA.

HP has done a good job squeezing a 16.1in display into a 15.6in laptop body and that gives the new Victus an edge in this highly competitive market sector. The Victus is also stylish, build quality is decent and the keyboard and sound system are all excellent. It’s a shame the display isn’t more colourful and more colour-accurate and I’d have liked to see a little more stamina from the battery. However, with the Ryzen model delivering plenty of gaming performance per pound, it’s still very easy to recommend.

The Victus 16 (16-e0094AX) is a good-looking gaming laptop with very capable specs at a more attainable price of PHP 75,990. There’s also a 16-e0216AX model with 512GB SSD and RTX 3050 Ti for PHP 79,990. It’s more than enough if used for productivity purposes or casual entertainment, but in gaming, you’ll have to lower some of the graphics presets to get better frame rates. If you’re not a heavy gamer, this laptop will serve you well.

Look, the HP Victus 16 is a decent gaming laptop. There’s a lot to like about this particular machine but nothing stands out, really. That’s not necessarily a bad thing considering the Victus 16 isn’t the torch-bearer for HP. It’s merely a budget notebook trying to keep up with the competing laptops in its category. For ₹63,000, the Victus 16 is a well-built laptop with a great keyboard and an above-average sound system. The AMD CPU-GPU combo also makes it easy to recommend for entry-level gaming. It’s a shame the base variant of this laptop only comes with a 60Hz panel, though. Most people will also appreciate the fact that it looks more professional and less “gamery” but there’s a distinct lack of personality in this laptop. It looks like one of the existing Omen laptops and performs like any other budget gaming notebook in this space. I’d also love to see more stamina from the battery but your mileage may vary. Overall, the Victus 16 is a pretty good machine if you’re looking for an entry-level notebook for casual gaming.

HP Victus has a lot going for it, like good build quality, relatively compact form factor and reliable performance. It’s a laptop that’s suited for both personal, professional and gaming needs. However, there are a few things that aren’t going in favour. For instance, the keyboard is a little too bouncy and the speakers need improvement. Despite all its shortcomings, the laptop offers a complete package and a balance between price and performance. So, if these two shortcomings are something that you can live with, HP Victus is definitely a machine to look forward to.

Let’s take a look at the average user who wants to purchase the Victus 16. This person might be someone who’s already using a Windows laptop or needs to replace an old computer. Typical activities might be web browsing, light photo editing, writing emails, and using basic apps like MS Office, and of course casual gaming. In this case, I would recommend the HP Victus 16 which is available for as low as Rs 60,000 online. But if you are someone who wants little power, more RAM and a better high refresh display, I would recommend looking for other options from HP, or maybe opt for a gaming laptop with higher configuration from rival brands.

Overall, the HP Victus is a decent laptop, but nothing stands out as especially wonderful. It looks great aesthetically and packs some decent hardware inside, but build quality and other shortcomings fail to set it apart. Looking at the competition, Acer offers the Nitro 5 with the same CPU/GPU combo, but adds 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD for the same price. The Gigabyte G5 is also slightly less expensive than the Victus with the same configuration as the Nitro 5. On the downside to the Gigabyte, its battery is significantly smaller, but that does reduce the weight considerably. To HP's credit, the Victus looks much more professional and less "gamery" than the Gigabyte and Acer in my opinion. Besides the Windows bloatware which is salvageable, and the average trackpad, there's nothing terribly wrong with the Victus. The kicker is that HP is marketing the Victus as a more budget oriented line of gaming laptops and while you do get some nice hardware for the cost, you may still be able to find a better deal elsewhere.

Wrapping up the review, HP Victus 16 turns out to be a decent gaming laptop. You can play demanding games even at the highest of the setting, and it stays relatively cooler after long gaming sessions. Furthermore, its minimalistic design allows its use as a dual-duty laptop and will not attract undue attention from the audience. However, the major letdown here is the weak screen hinge and a pretty standard 60Hz refresh rate screen. While HP needs to do extra homework to fix the lid issue, I wish the base variant of HP Victus 16 at least had a 120Hz refresh rate. As a result, if you want a greater refresh rate at a comparable price and specs, the Acer Nitro 5 is your best bet for now. Still, if you’re a professional looking for a powerful workstation with an elegant design that also handles casual gaming, the HP Victus is a good pick.

Overall, the HP Victus 16 sits comfortably between barebones budget laptops and mid to high-tier gaming laptops with all the bells and whistles. The model we tested is a good value, but the Victus 16 with a Ryzen 7 processor and RTX 3050 Ti graphics card should offer comparable performance and is $150 cheaper when on sale (at the time of writing this article, it’s currently on sale for $1,049.99 at the HP store). If you need a laptop you know can run 3D modeling or rendering software lag-free and the latest game titles at smooth frame rates, but you don’t want to spend a fortune, this is the laptop to pay attention to.

The HP Victus 16 is a solid gaming laptop with a ton of perks, including decent performance, a pretty display, a comfortable keyboard and a clean design. However, it’s hard to look past its crappy SSD and below average battery life. I recommend shelling out a few extra bucks for the Triton 300 SE, which’ll net you longer battery life and a much faster SSD. Of course, you won’t get the Victus’ big, bright display. The Victus is a solid choice if you can overlook some of its glaring issues, but ultimately, you might want to consider a different storage solution.

HP’s Victus 16 clearly offers substantial value as a budget gaming notebook. The price tag is worth applauding, especially with supply-chain woes gnawing at profit margins and availability. However, HP clearly sacrificed some of the bling of rival notebooks to deliver a no-nonsense gaming PC for users who care about what’s on the screen rather than under their fingers. Laptops that can do dual duty for work and play are worth highlighting, too. To be fair, we’d probably award the Victus 16 an Editor’s Choice award if not for the substantial contributions of the Asus ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition and Acer Predator Triton 500 SE, both of which deliver spectacular performance and a higher- resolution screen with better refresh rates. Yet both notebooks also cost a few hundreds of dollars more. If that matters, the Victus 16 is a more budget-friendly option. Of these notebooks we’ve tested, we think it’s fair to say we’d recommend the ROG Strix G15, the Triton 500SE, and the Victus 16. While the Victus 16 may not be your first choice for a gaming notebook, we still think it’s a good choice nevertheless.

The Victus 16 is a good-looking notebook with an appealing screen size and a wide range of configuration options and prices, from very low to not too high. Both its eight-core CPU and GeForce GPU are fine performers. But it lacks biometrics and a Thunderbolt port, and its display hinge and touchpad are low-quality. Frankly, we liked HP's outgoing Pavilion Gaming laptops better. For now, you're better off sticking with a competing 15.6-inch gaming laptop like the Predator Triton 300 SE.

As far as entry-level gaming laptops go, the HP Victus feels like an oddity, and not in the ugly duckling kind of way. On one hand, I get that HP has to strike a balance with the performance-per-ringgit ratio but on the other hand – and given the alternatives that are out there – I firmly believe that the brand should be able to offer slightly more to consumers. At RM3999, I honestly believe the one bump up to the Victus would be an additional 8GB stick of DDR4 RAM, but again, it’s not an option that HP is prepared to willingly offer to its customers. And then there’s the issue about the keyboard. As much as I advocate for the use of a full-sized keyboard, it would have made more sense for the company to employ a ten-keyless keyboard model. Having said all that, if you’re a diehard fan of HP products and you think you can do some form of magic, go right ahead.

In conclusion, is the HP Victus 16 worth it? Well, it depends on the price. At ~799$, Victus 16 offers excellent performance without the Pavilion 15’s quality control issues. However, if the Omen 15 goes on sale, that would be a better deal since the Omen has a significantly better cooling system. Overall, the laptop offers excellent 1080p performance while having a stylish chassis, a solid purchase option for any gamer on a budget.

In the most affordable version of the Victus 16, HP combines a Ryzen 5 5600H with a GeForce RTX 3050 Ti, which promises plenty of performance for the 144-Hz FHD display. If it only wasn't for the mediocre image quality…

The new HP Victus 16 with AMD is like old wine in a new bottle. Except, it is the other way around where the hardware is slightly updated while the outer shell remains the same. I don’t blame HP for repurposing the old chassis, but the sharp edges and flimsy hinge do leave one wanting more. Thankfully, the core hardware is actually quite good. It is not a massive upgrade from last year, but if you are looking for a gaming laptop that is not overly expensive, has an understated design, and is powered by the latest AMD Ryzen 6000-series CPUs, the new Victus 16 is a good choice. It offers great CPU performance that is sufficient for everyday work and almost everything that you throw at it. Gaming performance is good too, and while the RTX 3050 Ti is not very beefy, you can run most of your latest games at medium to low settings. There is also the factor of future-proofing where HP offers two M.2 storage and two memory DIMM slots, allowing you to add or swap the hardware if and when required.

The HP Victus 16 is a super fun affordable gaming laptop that I would recommend to entry-level and even some mid-tier gamers. Its Core i7 CPU and Nvidia 4050 GPU can handle most of the triple-A games you will find yourself playing. I know through this review I used the term “solid” often because, like a faithful first car, that’s what the Victus is: solid, dependable, and fun to game with. Although the display may not be the brightest in outdoor lighting situations, it's perfectly fine indoors. The FHD (1920 x 1080) display is colorful, sharp, and renders games without noticeable tearing or lag. I would totally recommend the HP Victus 16; it's fun, it's elegant and it's got all the moxy you need to enjoy gaming.

The HP Victus 16 straddles the fence between entry-level and midrange gaming. On one hand, its performance is effective, especially in our CPU tests, and it combines plenty of storage with decent battery life. On the other, the HP's price puts it close to more fully featured and better-performing systems rather than economy models. Laptop build quality and design are acceptable but not thrilling as you creep toward $1,500, and the 60Hz screen is a real miss for a gaming laptop at nearly any price in 2023. If you can find our test configuration for the $1,199.99 sale price seen at press time, it's more compelling, but as configured it's not the best value. At a glance, we'd suggest the Victus 16 setup with Core i7 CPU, GeForce RTX 4060 graphics, and 165Hz display at $1,569.99 (discounted to $1,319.99 at this writing).

76.25%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
