Google Pixel 10 teaser video is full of jabs at Apple's iPhone

Google today released the teaser video embedded below, which shows the Pixel 10 and once again confirms that the next-generation Pixel smartphones will be officially unveiled on August 20. The design was leaked months ago, and the launch date has also been confirmed officially, so the teaser video does not offer any new details in that regard.

However, Google isn't exactly focusing on the upgrades of the Pixel 10 series. Instead, the video is full of jabs at the Apple iPhone. It starts with the text, as a deep male voice in the video says:

If you buy a new phone because of a feature that’s coming soon, but it’s been coming soon for a full year, you could change the definition of soon. Or you could just change your phone.

This is a more or less reference to the new AI-powered version of Siri, which was announced along with the iPhone 16 (renewed from $689 on Amazon) in September 2024, but is still not available. The tagline "ask more of your phone" may be a jab at how many questions Siri can't answer properly.

Even the music is taking a shot at Apple. It's an instrumental version of "The Next Episode" by Dr. Dre, and Apple acquired Beats by Dre back in 2014. It's not surprising that Google is using this marketing strategy. Apple is the biggest competitor in the high-end smartphone market, especially in the US, Google's home market. Moreover, the Pixel 10 series is rumored to have relatively few major new features.
