GoRetroid is a Chinese manufacturer that has made a name for itself in the retro emulation space with its handheld consoles sold under the Retroid brand name. The manufacturer has now revealed its latest handheld, and it has got fans excited.
Posted on X, the teaser shows a new handheld called the Retroid Pocket Classic with a design reminiscent of the Game Boy Color. The teaser shows the handheld will be available in seven colors including purple, pink, teal, and Nintendo classic gray color. There's also a yellow variant which GoRetroid hints may have a blue back like the Game Boy Color Pokémon Special Pikachu Edition.
The Retroid Pocket Classic will have a vertical display, a cross-style d-pad, ABXY action buttons, two pill-shaped buttons (likely Start and Select), a dot-shaped button right below the screen, and a front-facing speaker. The handheld also has buttons on the right side that are likely the power button and volume rocker. The image doesn't show the rear of the handhelds, so it is not known if it has shoulder buttons.
GoRetroid's Pocket Classic is expected to be a rival to Anbernic's RG35XX handheld series, so pricing should be under $100. No specification details were provided but we hope it doesn't skimp on features such as Bluetooth and WiFi like the Anbernic RG35XX 2024 (curr. available on Amazon for $59.99).
There's also no info on when it will be announced, although GoRetroid says it's coming soon. Nevertheless, more details should surface as its release date draws closer.
