GoPro releases new 1-inch action cameras with 8K Open Gate support

GoPro has surprised us once again. To recap, the company presented new action cameras last week after indicating that it would wait until at least April 18 during the National Association of Broadcasters Show 2026 (NAB Show 2026).
Then, it claimed that Mission 1 series pre-orders would open on May 21. With NAB Show 2026 now well underway, GoPro has decided to release both the Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro globally. Rivalling existing action cameras like the Osmo Action 6 (curr. $426 on Amazon), the Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro seek to surpass rivals with a 1-inch camera sensor that combines a 50 MP native output with 8K/60 FPS video recording capabilities.

Additionally, the Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro are the first of GoPro's action cameras to feature its new GP3 processor, as well as its first that support 4:3 Open Gate video capture. Please note that while the Mission 1 Pro supports up to 8K and 30 FPS in Open Gate mode, GoPro limits the Mission 1 to 4K and 120 FPS.
The Mission starts at $599 in the US and €599 in the Eurozone, but £529 in the UK. By contrast, the Mission 1 Pro runs to $699, €699 and £599, respectively. Both cameras can be purchased with a 1-year GoPro Premium subscription at no extra cost, too. Pre-orders are slated to ship 'on or before' May 28.
