Osmo Pocket 4 vs Osmo Pocket 3 battery life test shows massive jump in recording times

While the new DJI Osmo Pocket 4 has made headlines for its 4K/240fps slow-motion and 14-stop dynamic range, one of its most impressive upgrades has largely flown under the radar - a significant leap in battery endurance compared to the Osmo Pocket 3.
Despite the internal battery seeing only a modest capacity bump to 1,545 mAh (up from the Pocket 3’s 1,300 mAh), the real-world gains suggest a much more efficient processing architecture.
YouTuber MoutMedia has conducted a side-by-side recording comparison between the two Pocket generations, and the results are rather surprising - in a good way.
DJI Osmo Pocket 4 vs Osmo Pocket 3 battery life and recording time test in 1080p, 4K/30fps, 4K/60fps
| Resolution | Osmo Pocket 4 (1,545 mAh) | Osmo Pocket 3 (1,300 mAh) | Improvement |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p/24fps | 4h 00m | 2h 47m | 73 min (44%) |
| 4K/30fps | 3h 24m | 2h 02m | 82 min (67%) |
| 4K/60fps | 2h 24m | 1h 54m | 30 min (26%) |
In high-resolution 4K/30fps testing, the Osmo Pocket 4 lasted 3 hours and 24 minutes, outperforming the Pocket 3’s 2 hours and 2 minutes - a substantial 67% increase in recording time. Meanwhile, at the more demanding 4K/60fps, the gap remains significant, with the newer model lasting 2 hours and 24 minutes compared to the predecessor's 1 hour and 54 minutes (+26%).
DJI’s official spec sheet highlights even greater gains in the most casual shooting settings. In a controlled environment, recording in 1080p/24fps, the Pocket 4 is rated for a whopping 4 hours of recording, which is 1 hour and 13 minutes longer than the Pocket 3’s 2 hours and 47 minutes.
Gimbal activity and screen brightness affect Osmo Pocket 4 and Pocket 3 recording times; charging speed remains identical
Of course, your recording times will vary based on factors like gimbal activity, screen brightness, and the use of the new magnetic fill light - to name a few. However, for creators, these tests prove that the Pocket 4 is much closer to being a "full-day" camera without the constant need for a battery handle (which is still available if you need it).
Charging is more or less equally fast, with the Pocket 3 and Pocket 4 reaching 80% in just 16-18 minutes and a full 100% in 32 minutes (when using a 65W PD charger).
