Dual-cam Insta360 Luna Ultra official hands-on preview: 1-inch sensor, 10-bit iLog, f/1.8 aperture take on DJI

The handheld gimbal camera market is witnessing its first major shift as Insta360 officially previewed its upcoming Luna series at NAB 2026 in Las Vegas - after months of weekly leaks and rumors.
Following the event, hands-on videos from creators are now available on YouTube, confirming that Insta360 isn't just following DJI’s lead - it’s aiming to overtake it.
The big surprise? Insta360’s gimbal camera lineup consists of two models - the dual-cam Insta360 Luna Ultra and the “Insta360 Luna Pro”. While the Luna Pro remains covered in mystery, it is now confirmed to be a single-camera model - just like the DJI Osmo Pocket 4.
Insta360 Luna Ultra hands-on videos officially confirm main specs: 1-inch sensor, 20mm, f/1.8 lens, 10 bit iLog, 14 stops of dynamic range
Technical specifications confirmed during the previews reveal a 1-inch primary sensor with a 20mm equivalent focal length. While the field of view matches the DJI Osmo Pocket 4, Insta360 has gained an edge with a brighter f/1.8 aperture (compared to the Osmo’s f/2.0).
Creators almost exclusively showed footage shot in "iLog," Insta360’s new 10-bit color profile designed to maximize the camera's 14 stops of dynamic range. If all of this sounds familiar, it’s because the specs match what we saw on the Osmo Pocket 4 series - almost 1:1.
The standout feature of the Luna Ultra, however, is its secondary zoom lens. While official focal lengths aren't public (sort of bizarre) the actual footage demonstrates a range that lends weight to rumors of a 6x "optical quality" zoom.
Insta360 Luna accessories on the way; Oppo to join gimbal camera race too
To round out the ecosystem, the hands-on videos also confirmed the “Insta360 Mic Pro” - a new button-style wireless microphone featuring an integrated E-Ink display for custom branding.
The Insta360 Luna Pro and Luna Ultra, co-engineered with Leica, are expected to officially launch before the end of June 2026, but they might not be the only Osmo Pocket 4 competitors on the horizon. Oppo is now rumored to be working on its own gimbal camera.
It’s worth noting that the Insta360 Luna cameras are very much expected to become available in the US, which is no longer the case with DJI’s cameras.
