DJI Osmo Pocket 4's high-resolution 37MP 1-inch sensor can take "Super Photos" - here is how

DJI wants to set a new benchmark for ultra-portable cinematography with the launch of the Osmo Pocket 4. While the pocketable design remains mostly unchanged compared to the super-popular Osmo Pocket 3, the internals have undergone a radical transformation centered around a new, high-res 37MP 1-inch stacked CMOS sensor. Yes, in case there was any confusion, this is indeed a brand-new 1-inch sensor.
- Osmo Pocket 4: 37MP stacked 1-inch CMOS sensor, f/2.0 aperture, 14 stops of dynamic range (in "D-Log" mode)
- Osmo Pocket 3: 9.4MP 1-inch CMOS sensor, f/2.0 aperture, 12 stops of dynamic range (in "D-Log M" mode)
The switch to 37MP is a huge leap over the Osmo Pocket 3, which relied on a very modest 9.4MP 1-inch sensor. In fact, the roughly 4x increase in resolution isn't just about pixel counting - it’s a game-changer for versatility, enabling a better, lossless 2x zoom crop, allowing content creators to punch in without as many digital artifacts or "mushiness”.
DJI Osmo Pocket 4: How to take full advantage of the 37MP sensor for taking photos
To take full advantage of the 37MP sensor, you want to switch to "SuperPhoto" mode, which defaults to a 1:1 aspect ratio - or you can snap 33MP in the 16:9 aspect ratio.
Either way, the Osmo Pocket 4 finally makes photography a primary feature rather than an afterthought. In fact, the default setting of the new “Custom” button on the Pocket 4 is to switch between video and photo mode - which means DJI wants users to think of the Osmo Pocket 4 as a video/photo camera.
With 37MP stills, a higher ISO ceiling (in photo/video mode), and superior color depth, the 2026 Osmo Pocket is now a truly viable camera for high-res photography. The secret sauce lies in the combination of the new stacked sensor and an upgraded processing engine, which unlocks an industry-leading 14 stops of dynamic range.
Buzz words aside, real-world reviews seem to confirm the new hardware helps to effectively preserve highlights and pull more information from the shadows.
