Insta360 Luna Ultra full specs appear after official reveal: 6x zoom, modular design, 4K/240fps

While Insta360 kept its upcoming Luna Ultra behind frosted glass during its "exclusive sneak peek" at NAB 2026, and only let select YouTubers preview with the pre-release gimbal camera units, the internet has moved faster than the company’s marketing department.
Now, a comprehensive Insta360 Luna Ultra spec sheet has leaked on social media, effectively filling in the blanks that the company’s carefully controlled preview videos left out. Of course, if the leaked info turns out to be accurate.
That said, the leaked specs are telling us that the Luna Ultra isn't just a simple gimbal camera - it's a modular, dual-lens system designed to add innovation to the current handheld market, which is always welcome.
Insta360 Luna Ultra - latest, comprehensive specs leak: Smaller telephoto sensor, 4-6x lossless zoom, detachable gimbal, 4K/240fps, more
According to the leaked comparison chart, the Luna Ultra splits its imaging duties between two distinct Leica-calibrated systems:
- Main/wide-angle lens: Features a 1-inch CMOS sensor paired with an 18mm equivalent focal length and a bright f/2.0 aperture.
- Telephoto/zoom lens: Utilizes a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor (the same size found in most flagship action cams) with a 70mm equivalent focal length and f/2.8 aperture.
- Zoom reach: Allegedly, 3.9x optical zoom, which goes up to 6x lossless zoom (doesn't quite make sense as a 2x crop on 3.9x would be 7.8x)
- Features: Both lenses support 10-bit color depth, Dolby Vision HDR, and 4K recording at 240fps slow-motion; Deep Track 3.0 for AI-enhanced subject tracking.
- Design & display: The Luna Ultra features a 2-inch rotatable OLED touchscreen with 1000 nits of brightness; "Twist Modular Design" allows the gimbal head to be detached from the handle; weighs less than 150g
- Battery: 1500 mAh cell rated for 150-180 minutes of continuous recording.
Insta360 Luna Ultra: Zoom camera remains the biggest mystery about Insta360’s first gimbal camera
While the presence of a dedicated telephoto lens is now a certainty, the specific magnification value is still debated - even after the above-mentioned leaks. That’s because early rumors pointed toward a more modest 3x optical/6x lossless configuration, while later, more optimistic leaks suggested Insta360 had managed to squeeze a massive 6x optical/12x lossless system into that tiny gimbal head.
All in all, regardless of which leak/rumor ultimately turns out to be accurate, one thing is clear - having a dedicated zoom lens gives the Luna Ultra an edge over the vanilla Osmo Pocket 4. At least until the Osmo Pocket 4P (Pro) becomes official.
Insta360 Luna Ultra and Luna Pro launch date: June release expected (but not confirmed)
Finally, while NAB was only a "preview," the maturity of the leaked Luna Ultra marketing materials suggests a launch is imminent.
- Insta360 Luna Ultra: Expect a full global launch in late Q2 2026 (likely June) to capitalize on the summer travel season.
- Insta360 Luna Pro: The single-camera version, which was teased but remained a ghost at the show, is expected to launch alongside the Ultra as a more affordable entry point, likely mirroring the specs of the Ultra's main 1-inch sensor system without the secondary telephoto module.
With DJI currently facing regulatory hurdles in the US market, the Luna Ultra might just be the "Pocket killer" many were waiting for.
