Official: New GoPro action cameras releasing globally in May with 1-inch sensors

GoPro was not due to showcase new action cameras until April 18 during this year's National Association of Broadcasters Show (NAB). Yesterday, we reported that the company had begun distributing a new action camera to influencers. At the time, we believed that this may be the Hero 14 Black, considering GoPro's frequent Hero series releases until the Hero 13 Black (curr. $379 on Amazon).
However, the company has now announced a pivot to the Mission 1 series with the Mission 1, Mission 1 Pro and Mission 1 Pro ILS. All featuring GoPro's new GP3 processor, only the ILS provides compatibility with interchangeable MFT lenses. The trio contain a new 1-inch and 50 MP sensor that offers 8K/60 FPS, 4K/240 FPS or 1080p/960 FPS video modes.

Moreover, the Mission 1 series supports Open Gate video with full 4:3 sensor captures at 8K/30 FPS for Pro models and 4K/120 FPS for the Mission 1. Reportedly, GoPro's new cameras will last over 3 hours when recording 4K/30 FPS videos with existing Enduro 2 batteries. Other improvements include 4 microphones with 32-bit float audio recording, Bluetooth 5.3 support and waterproofing to 20 metres.
GoPro has confirmed that Mission 1, Mission 1 Pro and Mission 1 Pro Grip Edition pre-orders will open globally on May 21. The new action cameras should then start shipping a week later on May 28. Meanwhile, the Creator Edition, Pro Ultimate Creator Edition and ILS will not be available until July 2026 at the earliest and September 2026 at the latest.
