Garmin has begun rolling out a new update to many of its high-end smartwatches. Available globally, the new update promises to improve these devices in several areas, including one that caused some Fenix smartwatches to reset when playing music.

Earlier this month, Garmin rolled out two updates to the Fenix 8, Fenix 8 Pro (curr. $1,099 on Amazon) and associated smartwatches. Initially, the company issued System Software 22.39 with fixes for bugs that were spotted after a recent stable rollout.

Shortly afterwards, the company continued with its 23.xx Beta Program, which started with Beta Version 23.11 on July 1. Now, Garmin has returned to its Beta Program with the release of Beta Version 23.15. Typically, Garmin takes a few days to complete a software rollout.

However, Garmin already claims to have offered all Enduro 3, Fenix E, Fenix 8 and Quatix 8 smartwatches a chance to receive the new update as an over-the-air (OTA) download. If that is not the case on your Beta Program-enrolled smartwatch, then you can manually download Beta Version 23.15 by tapping 'Check for Updates' after navigating through the Main Menu to Settings, System and Software Update.

In a forum post, Garmin claims to have made half a dozen adjustments from Beta Version 23.13. For instance, the new update is said to refine Garmin's flashlight shortcut to cycle through on, off and strobe modes. Additionally, Beta Version 23.15 contains updated but unspecified translations. Also, the new update should prevent a device reset when playing music. The full changelog between Beta Versions 23.13 and 23.15 is as follows:

  • Fixes an issue that could cause the device to reset while playing music.
  • Fixes an issue where music volume gets set to 100% when a timer goes off during an activity.
  • Fixes other minor issues.
  • Fixes phone shortcut on devices without phone app. These devices now go to the phone connection page.
  • Improves the flashlight shortcut to cycle through the on, off, and strobe modes.
  • Updates translations.
