Garmin update improves top smartwatches but removes key features

Garmin is rolling out a new software update for the Fenix 8 series (available on Amazon). The lineup includes models such as the Fenix 8 Solar, which we have already tested. The update brings firmware version 23.13 to the Fenix 8 Solar as well as variants like the Fenix 8 AMOLED and Enduro 3. The Fenix E is also included in the rollout.
The update is currently still in beta. As is typical for Garmin beta releases, certain features have been temporarily removed. Most notably—likely due to regulatory reasons—electrocardiogram (ECG) recording and analysis are currently unavailable. Diving features have also been disabled. The rollout is being conducted in stages and is currently available to around 20 percent of eligible devices.
The official changelog lists nine entries, all of which are bug fixes, with one exception. Several of these relate to audio settings. For example, an issue where the volume increased after an alarm has been resolved. Additionally, alarm tones should now reliably match the user-defined volume level. Garmin has also fixed a bug that could cause the smartwatch to crash during indoor climbing activities. The update further includes general fixes for minor, unspecified issues.
