A new app for Garmin smartwatches allows users to log their alcohol intake and estimate their blood alcohol content. While it can offer useful insights into drinking habits, the calculated values should be treated with caution as they are only approximations.

A new app for Garmin smartwatches, Alcogram, is designed to track alcohol consumption. However, caution is advised when it comes to estimating blood alcohol concentration: As the developer clearly states, the values provided are only approximations. When in doubt, it is always safer to avoid driving or cycling.

To improve accuracy compared to simple rules of thumb, Alcogram uses data from the user’s Garmin profile, including gender, height, age, and body weight - factors that influence alcohol metabolism. The app runs directly on the smartwatch, making it convenient to use without needing a smartphone. Users can log various alcoholic beverages on the watch, either by selecting preconfigured options or entering custom drinks with specific alcohol content.

A built-in graph visualises the estimated blood alcohol level over time, including its projected progression. The app also keeps a history of past consumption, helping users monitor their drinking habits. Alcogram is compatible with a wide range of Garmin smartwatches, including several Fenix models (available on Amazon).
