Brighter than Garmin Fenix 8 Pro MicroLED: Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 said to break records

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 was already pictured in high-resolution render images. Shortly thereafter, images revealed the numerous watch bands that Samsung is expected to offer for its next-generation flagship smartwatch. Now, the usually extremely well-informed leaker Ice Universe has uncovered new details about the device’s specifications.
First and foremost, Samsung is said to be incorporating an AMOLED display that reaches a brightness of up to 5,000 nits. This makes the screen not only significantly brighter than the 3,000-nit AMOLED display on the older Galaxy Watch Ultra ($449 on Amazon), but it even surpasses the 4,500-nit MicroLED display on the $1,700 Garmin Fenix 8 Pro, and is thus likely to break the record for the brightest smartwatch display.
Samsung Display had already unveiled a so-called OCF-OLED panel at Mobile World Congress 2025, which was expected to reach a brightness of 5,000 nits, making the screen readable even in direct sunlight without any restrictions. According to Samsung Display, OCF panels are also 20 percent thinner and significantly more energy-efficient – the panel is said to consume the same amount of power at 5,000 nits as older panels do at 3,000 nits. According to Ice Universe, the battery ’s battery capacity will increase from 590 mAh to 800 mAh, a rise of 210 mAh, or 35.6 percent.
Combined with the more efficient panel, this could extend the battery life from 60 hours to three to four days. Finally, Ice Universe states that the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is IP69K-certified, and as before, the watch is water-resistant up to 10 ATM, as shown by the leaked renders. The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is expected to be officially unveiled on July 22, along with the Galaxy Watch9, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide, and the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.
