Amazfit takes on Apple Watch with deeper iPhone integration

Until now, iPhone users who wanted to reply to an incoming message via a smartwatch had no choice but to buy an Apple Watch, because Apple had denied third-party smartwatches access to this feature. Following EU intervention, that has changed – since the update to iOS 26.5, iPhone users in the European Union can enable a feature called “Notification Forwarding” in system settings.
When this feature is enabled, a third-party device of your choice gains full access to an iPhone’s push notifications. Amazfit is one of the first smartwatch manufacturers to introduce support for this feature. Anyone who owns an Amazfit Cheetah 2 Ultra ($599 on Amazon), an Amazfit Balance Ultra, or an Amazfit Balance 3 can now enable this feature in the Zepp app.
The Amazfit Bip Max, Active 3 Premium, Cheetah 2 Pro, T-Rex 3, T-Rex 3 Pro, T-Rex Ultra 2, and Balance 2 are expected to receive a corresponding update "soon." This update offers users three main benefits. First, it’s possible to reply to incoming messages directly from the smartwatch, even for third-party apps like WhatsApp.
Second, users can interact with notifications, for example, to mark a message as read or initiate a callback. And third, notifications can now also display media, such as an image recorded by a video doorbell when the doorbell rings. This is currently a beta feature, so bugs cannot be ruled out.
