The Samsung Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 will be officially unveiled on Wednesday. A benchmark leak shows just how significantly the next-generation smartwatches benefit from the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear Elite.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch8 ($304 on Amazon) and the Galaxy Watch Ultra are expected to get successors as early as Wednesday, July 22. According to rumors, one of the most significant upgrades is the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear Elite. Although the chip, just like the Exynos W1000, features an ARM Cortex-A78 performance core and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores, these cores reach higher clock speeds of up to 2.1 GHz.

Qualcomm is also touting a graphics chip that’s said to be seven times faster than that of the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2, as well as an integrated Hexagon AI accelerator. The chip is also said to allow a smartwatch to charge from 0 to 50 percent in just 10 minutes. An initial Geekbench listing shows what kind of performance can be expected from the brand-new flagship smartwatch chip. According to the listing, the processor achieves up to 56 percent better CPU performance and nearly 47 percent higher GPU performance than the Exynos W1000.

As usual, benchmarks should be viewed with caution prior to a product’s launch. While the performance is top-notch by smartwatch standards, the Galaxy Watch9 certainly can’t keep up with smartphones. Even the budget-friendly Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 from 2023 achieves nearly double the multi-threaded performance.
