SanDisk quietly launches new series of USB-C flash drives

SanDisk has just quietly introduced the CZB Series, a new lineup of USB-C thumb drives aimed at users who want a simple way of transferring files between modern devices that have dropped traditional USB-A ports. Initially launching in both the US and China, the drive's compact black casing features a built-in loop for attaching to a keychain or lanyard. At under two inches long and about 6 grams, the drive is designed to be very portable.

Performance-wise, the CZB drives run on the USB 3.2 Gen 1 standard, capable of up to 5Gbps of bandwidth, with SanDisk citing sequential read speeds up to 250MB/s. This places them solidly in line with typical flash drives on the market, which is fine for everyday tasks such as transferring documents or backing up photos, but not for demanding work such as editing video directly from the drive. The drives are officially compatible with Windows 10, Windows 11 and macOS Monterey or later, although technically there is nothing preventing one from using them with Linux machines, Android, or older Windows or macOS computers, while the SanDisk app provides optional backup and file management features on supported devices.

The SanDisk CZB Series is currently available in the US in variants of 64GB, 128GB and 256GB for $20, $25 and $43, respectively. All three variants include a three-year warranty. Broader availability is expected across Canada, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific markets, although SanDisk has not released a detailed regional rollout schedule.
