Garmin pushes new hotfix to smartwatches to stop crashes
Garmin has released a hotfix for the Forerunner 265 smartwatch in software version 18.23. In a forum post, the company said it had issued the update after users reported that using the Track Run activity could cause their wearable to crash. Garmin suggested that this was a permanent fix for the devices and that this was the only activity profile affected by the bug.
Software version 18.23 is publicly available, and the company indicates that the rollout is 100% complete. The new update was launched without beta testing and followed the release of public update 18.22 earlier this month. This brought automatic sport detection for multisport activities, a Lap Undo tool, and the Sleep Coach Glance. The software also provided runners with access to a global database of running tracks and improved the performance of the optical heart rate sensor in cold weather.
All Garmin Forerunner 265 smartwatch units should now have automatically received the update to version 18.23. However, if you are still running on version 18.22, you can manually trigger the download and installation of the new software by going to Menu > System > Software Update > Check For Updates. The software is also rolling out to the Forerunner 255, Forerunner 955 and Forerunner 965 smartwatches.
