Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5 – Rugged tablet with many qualities

This has perhaps crossed the minds of people who are clumsy, like to take baths or simply don’t enjoy cleaning: “It would be convenient if my tablet were to be drop-proof and resistant to water and dust!”

Samsung can help you with that. Though the Galaxy Tab Active5 is typically geared more towards professional users who often need to work in dusty or hazardous environments than consumers, you can still purchase the tablet for personal use and get a couple of unique features not found on other tablets. For example, the rugged device has a removable battery, works with a stylus (actually included in the box), and can optionally be used without any battery when connected to a power source.

Physical buttons for menu functions, an extra-sensitive touchscreen and a customisable button make it easier for you to use the device with gloves on.

However, you have to be prepared that the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5 is design-wise somewhat chunkier than conventional tablets: the edges around the display are much thicker, and it also weighs slightly more. The outdoor tablet also isn’t very cheap, with the 5G variant costing roughly €573 (US$732) right now on Amazon. 

Nevertheless, Samsung hasn’t just limited themselves to properly protecting the tablet, but rather has also given it a few useful components for everyday use: the Tab Active5 comes with optional 5G capability, NFC, eSIM support, a bright 120Hz display and pretty decent cameras. The speaker is quite serviceable as well and can even reproduce light bass. 

Battery life is likewise solid. Apart from the slightly less accurate location, we could hardly find any real flaws with the sturdy Samsung tablet.
