Flagship Garmin Forerunner smartwatch receives important new update to resolve rare crash issue
Barely any time has passed since Garmin released Software Version 18.22 for the Forerunner 965. After issuing Software Version 17.24 in late 2023, Garmin embarked on a public beta testing program that spanned roughly six weeks between early January and mid-February. In short, Software Version 18.22 contained nearly two dozen changes from Software Version 17.26, which quickly replaced Software Version 17.24 because of a 'rare potential crash-loop'.
Similarly, Garmin has now pushed Software Version 18.23 without any prior public beta testing. In a forum post, the company explains its behind releasing Software Version 18.23, which are as follows:
We have been made aware of a rare situation that is causing units to crash while using the Track Run activity profile.
Supposedly, Software Version 18.23 serves as a 'permanent fix for this issue'. The company adds that 100% of units should have now received this bug fix-centric update. If that is not the case, then you can download Software Version 18.23 manually by tapping 'Check for Updates' after navigating through the System Software and then Update within the Forerunner 965's main settings menu. Please see Garmin's forum post for more details.
