Garmin is now rolling out a new update to many of its high-end smartwatches. Available globally, the new update introduces several changes, including multiple designed to eliminate random system shutdowns.

Garmin has released multiple updates to the Fenix 8 family of late, despite replacing them with the newer Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro. For instance, the company delivered Software Version 23.31 to the Fenix E and Fenix 8 on September 10, but not to the Fenix 8 Pro.

Shortly afterwards, it started rolling out the same update to the Enduro 3. While the Fenix 8 Pro still awaits a new stable update (curr. $1,049 on Amazon), Garmin has returned to its Beta Program with another v23.xx build.

To recap, Beta Version 23.32 arrived only a day after System Software 23.31 reached smartwatches running stable software. As we discussed at the time, Beta Version 23.32 was only said to contain fixes for unspecified minor issues. By contrast, its replacement boasts a 22-line changelog. However, many of these can be found in System Software 23.31.

As far as we can tell, Beta Version 23.34 actually introduces just four changes from older 23.xx software. Half of these relate to Spotify music playback, too. The changelog between Beta Version 23.32 and Beta Version 23.34 is as follows. At this stage, it is unclear when Garmin will transition this new 23.xx beta development to its stable software branch.

Beta Version 23.34 changes

  • Enables the voice command feature with the "OK Garmin" wake word.
  • Fixes potential issue with Spotify music playback after skipping songs via paired Bluetooth headphones.
  • Fixes potential shutdown when switching playlists in Spotify.
  • Fixes potential shutdown when using the HIIT activity.
