In 2020, Angry Miao released the Cyberboard, a keyboard whose design is inspired by the Tesla Cybertruck. Now, its subsidiary, Dry Studio, has announced a keyboard that's inspired by cats, sort of. Called the Petbrick 65, Dry Studio describes the mechanical keyboard as a keyboard you can actually pet
thanks to having a removable fluffy outer shell.
Dry Studio says the Petbrick 65 is the first fluffy, pettable custom mechanical keyboard in the world
. The $239 keyboard is targeted at cat owners who must have experienced their cat laying on their keyboard and preventing them from working. With the Petbrick 65, they will be able to replicate the experience of petting their cat but without the disturbance.
The fluffy outer shell, which attaches to the keyboard via magnets, is handcrafted and made from a fabric that can be hand-washed. Dry Studio adds that the shell is made by a toy factory with decades of experience which gives the fabric the feeling of a stuffed toy.
The keyboard itself uses Angry Miao's Leaf-Spring mount and has an 8-layer construction that includes a sandblasted POM plate, IXPE 8 switch pad, and two layers of ultra-low-density EPDM sound-dampening foam. It also features a bespoke Crystal Pink switch developed by Dry Studio and has customizable RGB lighting effects.
The Petbrick 65 can be used in wired mode and can also be used wirelessly either via Bluetooth or 2.4GHz wireless. It has a 5,000mAh battery but there is no mention of how long a single charge will last. The Petbrick 65 is available in two colors — Calico and Odd-eye — both of which have cat-themed keycaps.
Dry Studio says there will be more colors available, and while they will have a removable fluffy outer shell, they won't be cat-themed.
