Boox Picco unveiled: Petite 3.97" e-reader with Pomodoro, microSD, and MagSafe
Boox has launched the 3.97-inch Picco e-reader with a paper-like, black-and-white E Ink display for reading during commutes and breaks. The pared-down Picco comes with Countdown, Pomodoro, and To-Do apps and can be attached to any magnetic surface, including Apple iPhones with MagSafe and refrigerator doors.
The Picco is fitted with a 480 x 800 (235 ppi) monochrome ePaper touchscreen in a 58 g (2.0 oz.) body that measures 105.5 x 62 x 5.5 mm (4.2 x 2.4 x 0.2 in.). The display is designed to be highly legible in direct sunlight without additional lighting, and it comes with a light with adjustable color temperature for use in lower-light environments. A physical Function Switch toggles the light or switches between light and dark screen modes.
Physical page flip buttons are located on the side, and the e-reader can be used in all four orientations for ambidextrous and landscape use. The petite tablet comes with a 16 GB microSD card and a USB-C port for charging its 920 mAh battery. The playing-card sized Picco runs an unspecified OS that has been pared down for simplicity.
Ebooks can be loaded onto the microSD card through a wired USB-C connection with a laptop, or a Wi-Fi/BT connection to the Boox Tiles website or a phone running the Boox Tiles app. It is compatible with EPUB, MOBI, AZW3, AZW, AZW5, FB2, FB2.ZIP, FB3, FBZ, TXT, PDB, PRC, RTF, HTML, XHTML, HTM, and CHM ebooks. PNG, JPEG, WEBP, BMP, and GIF images can also be loaded to customize the Picco's screensaver.
The Boox Picco has an MSRP of $109.99. The ereader is available for pre-order from the company website and soon from Amazon.
