The BenQ W5850 4K Laser Projector is now available in the US. This home theater model, described by the brand as a “commercial-grade” device, was released in European countries in April 2025.
BenQ’s W5850 is a DLP projector with a 3,840 × 2,160 px resolution. It is said to cover 100% of the DCI-P3 and Rec. 709 color gamuts, and can throw images up to 200 inches wide with a 1.0-1.6:1 throw ratio. The contrast ratio is listed as 3,000,000:1, and there are tools like keystone correction and lens shift. Plus, it supports Filmmaker Mode HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG.
The W5850 uses a laser light source, delivering up to 2,600 ANSI lumens brightness, which should run for around 20,000 hours with typical use. You can connect devices like game consoles via a range of ports, including two HDMI, with 13 ms input lag at 1080@120Hz or 17.9 ms at 4K@60Hz. It is worth noting that there are no speakers, though these could be connected via the HDMI eARC port, which allows 7.1 channel and Dolby Atmos. It also appears that users would need to connect a device like the brand’s Android TV dongle to access their favourite streaming services on the projector. This BenQ model measures 525.2 × 145.7 × 392.2 mm (~20.7 x 5.7 x 15.4 inches) and has a black casing.
You can now buy the BenQ W5850 4K Laser Projector at the brand’s online store in the US for $6,999. That makes it one of the most expensive models in the brand’s currency range; the older LK936ST 4K UHD projector retails for $4,899.99 (curr. from $4,799.00 at Amazon Marketplace).
