The next few years are apparently going to be big for iPad and MacBook devices with the addition of OLED displays and foldable form factors. According to the latest report out of Korea, Apple could release its debut foldable device in 2026 followed by a foldable MacBook.

Rumors regarding Apple’s foray into foldable devices have been circulating on the web for years at this point. But we are yet to see the iPhone maker mention much less confirm the existence of foldable devices. The latest report regarding Apple’s foldable gadgets comes to us courtesy of the Korean publication The Elec which alleges a few interesting details.

For starters, The Elec reports that Apple could release a foldable device in 2026-2027 with a screen size ranging from “late 7 to early 8 inches”. Based on the size, it is expected that the new foldable could replace the iPad mini which measures 8.3 inches. However, there are also reports that this foldable device won’t replace the iPad mini as Apple is reportedly moving the iPad mini to OLED. This is in line with a rumor from December 2023 which stated that Cupertino is developing OLED iPads and will only move to iPad Fold development after the iPad lineup features OLED panels.

Moving on, The Elec suggests that if Apple does decide to produce a foldable device by 2026, Samsung Display is expected to be the sole supplier of the screens as only Samsung would have the manufacturing readiness owing to its experience with the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip phones. However, since Apple is yet to finalize the technical details of its first foldable, the company is reportedly likely to partner with both Samsung and LG for the procurement of foldable screens.

Finally, Apple is presumably also readying a 20.25-inch foldable machine and an OLED MacBook which are scheduled to be released after the company gets done with the smaller foldable. As a refresher, we reported back in July 2023 that a 20-inch foldable MacBook could be announced in 2025 followed by general availability in 2026. Although The Elec’s timeline differs compared to the previous leak, it is nice to get more confirmation of the existence of a foldable MacBook.

That said, even if the latest report is accurate, we are still looking at two to three years before we can get our hands on Apple foldable devices. So, take the information presented here with a grain of salt.
