Apple's foldable MacBook delayed to 2027 or 2028 amid technical challenges
According to well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple's much-awaited foldable MacBook has reportedly run into significant delays. The tech giant has now settled on an 18.8-inch model, canceling the earlier rumored 20.25-inch version.
Kuo shared on X (formerly Twitter) that because of "technical challenges with the display and mechanical parts," the mass production of the foldable MacBook has been pushed back from the original target of the first half of 2026 to either late 2027 or 2028."
The analyst also discussed about rumors concerning a possible foldable iPad, saying that there is currently "no visibility" of such a device in Apple's supply chain. This goes against earlier rumors that suggested a foldable iPad might arrive as soon as next year.
Even though the foldable MacBook project is facing delays, it's imperative not to forget that Apple's plans can change significantly in the next few years. The company has previously scrapped ambitious projects, like its self-driving car efforts, after investing a lot of time and money. Therefore, the future of the foldable MacBook is still uncertain, and Apple can simply decide to abandon the idea if the technical problems prove too hard to solve.
It is important to note that all these rumors are highly speculative as of now, so take the information with a grain of salt. Apple has not made any announcements about the foldable devices and has not commented on them either.
