AMD Ryzen 7 165

The AMD Ryzen 7 165 is a mid-range laptop processor from the Hawk Point Refresh series with six cores and simultaneous multithreading (SMT), allowing it to process up to twelve threads simultaneously. The CPU is based on the Zen 4 architecture and runs at a base clock speed of 3.3 GHz and a single-core boost clock speed of up to 4.7 GHz. It offers 6 MB of L2 cache and 16 MB of L3 cache. Technically, the R7 165 is similar to the older Ryzen 5 8640U, but has lower CPU clock speeds.
Its performance is likely to be slightly below that of the older Ryzen 5 8640U and should therefore place it in the lower mid-range of current laptop processors.
The chip integrates an RDNA 3-based graphics unit (iGPU) called the Radeon 760M, with 8 CUs, a clock speed of up to 2.6 GHz, and an AV1 video engine. The XDNA AI accelerator, which is based on a Xilinx FPGA, is enabled in the Ryzen 7 165 and offers up to 16 TOPs. The higher AI performance advertised for other Hawk Point models compared with the AI engine in the Apple M2 SoC is therefore unavailable. In terms of interfaces, Hawk Point offers two USB 4 ports (40 Gbit/s), 20 PCIe 4.0 lanes, and a dual-channel memory controller for DDR5-4800 or LPDDR5x-7500 with ECC support.
The Phoenix/Hawk Point series has a monolithic design and—unlike the Dragon Range 7045HX series—is manufactured by TSMC using a 4 nm FinFET process. The Ryzen 7 165 has a configurable TDP of between 15 and 30 watts, with 28 watts specified as the "default TDP".
