AMD Ryzen 7 249

The Ryzen 7 249 (100-000002323-99) is a chip from the Hawk Point family. It is similar to the older Ryzen 7 8745H and features 8 cores (16 threads thanks to SMT support) clocked at up to 4.9 GHz, as well as the still quite powerful Radeon 780M iGPU. Compared to the Ryzen 7 8745H and the Ryzen 7 253, the base clock has been significantly reduced to 3.1 GHz. According to AMD, the Ryzen AI NPU is not enabled in the Ryzen 7 249.
Performance
We expect the Ryzen 7 249 to deliver performance very similar to that of the older Ryzen 7 8745H. The 700 MHz lower base clock is likely to have an impact in only a few use cases. Therefore, the Ryzen 7 253 and the Ryzen 7 255 should be only marginally faster. Although the Zen 4 architecture is already outdated, performance should still be sufficient for most applications thanks to the 8 relatively highly clocked cores.
Architecture and Features
Unlike Zen 3, Zen 4 offers AVX-512 support as well as other improvements, including larger caches, registers, and buffers. The Ryzen 7 253 features 16 MB of L3 cache and a fast RAM controller that supports LPDDR5x-7500 and DDR5-5600. Twenty PCI Express 4.0 lanes, each offering 1.97 GB/s, are available for connecting devices such as NVMe SSDs and graphics cards. USB 4 and Thunderbolt support are also included. The APU cannot be overclocked or replaced by the user, as it is permanently soldered to the motherboard (FP7r2 or FP8 socket interface).
Graphics
The Radeon 780M (12 CUs/768 shaders, up to 2,500 MHz) can drive four monitors simultaneously, each at a resolution of up to SUHD 4320p. Hardware encoding and decoding of the most common video codecs (AV1, AVC, HEVC) is also no problem. Many games are still playable at 1080p in early 2025, though usually only at low or very low settings.
Power Consumption
According to AMD, the TDP is configurable between 35 and 54 watts, with a default value of 45 watts.
The chip is manufactured at TSMC in 4nm FinFET.
