AMD Ryzen 5 225

The AMD Ryzen 5 225 is a mid-range laptop processor from the Hawk Point series with six cores and simultaneous multithreading (SMT), allowing it to process up to twelve threads simultaneously. The CPU is based on the Zen 4 architecture and runs at 4.1 GHz (base clock) to 4.8 GHz (single-core boost). It offers 6 MB of L2 cache and 16 MB of L3 cache. Technically, the R5 225 is similar to the older Ryzen 5 8640U, but it has a higher TDP, slightly different clock speeds, and no active NPU (Ryzen AI is disabled).
Its performance should be very similar to that of the older Ryzen 5 8640U and thus place it in the mid-range among current laptop processors.
The chip integrates an RDNA 3-based graphics unit (iGPU) called the Radeon 760M, with 8 CUs, a clock speed of up to 2.6 GHz, and an AV1 video engine. The physically integrated XDNA AI accelerator, based on a Xilinx FPGA, is disabled in the Ryzen 5 225. The higher AI performance advertised for other Hawk Point models compared with the AI engine in the Apple M2 SoC is therefore not available. In terms of interfaces, Hawk Point offers two USB 4 ports (40 Gbit/s), 20 PCIe 4.0 lanes, and a dual-channel memory controller for DDR5-5600 or LPDDR5x-7500 with ECC support.
The Phoenix/Hawk Point series consists of a single chip and—unlike the Dragon Range 7045HX series—is manufactured by TSMC using a 4 nm FinFET process.
