Magyar3 fastest graphics cards for a gaming laptop in mid 2023
With latest games taking ever more vRAM (upwards of 8 GB is now recommended) and asking for an ever increasing set of features, H2 2023 is a great time to get a shiny new gaming laptop, especially so considering the next generation of GeForce cards is unlikely to come out before the end of 2024.
We have compiled a short list of the fastest graphics cards for those looking to ditch their current system in search for the ultimate gaming experience. The list features two Nvidia products and one AMD product; Intel Arc did not make the list this time - hopefully, this will eventually change.
Third-fastest laptop graphics card in mid 2023: AMD Radeon HD 6850M XT
The 6850M XT packs just enough of a punch to be able to put its nose in front of the RTX 4070 (Laptop) as well as the RTX 3080 Ti (Laptop), as we found out in our Alienware m17 R5 review. A few issues with AMD's graphics drivers are not severe enough to make this GPU look like a bad proposition in our eyes. That said, the 6850M XT is more of an FHD 1080p gaming solution as it may struggle at QHD 1440p, depending on the title and the settings.

Second-fastest laptop graphics card in mid 2023: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 (Laptop)
The RTX 4080 (Laptop) sports the same amount of vRAM as the 6850M XT does and with about the same bandwidth, too. The graphics chip itself, however, is a lot more powerful for perfectly smooth QHD 1440p gameplay, no matter the settings.
The Alienware x16 R1 is among the fastest systems with this graphics adapter known to us.

The fastest laptop graphics card in mid 2023: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 (Laptop)
While technically not any superior to the desktop RTX 4080, this graphics card will make the vast majority of gamers happy by delivering 100 fps or more at QHD in pretty much all games. The Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 G733PY is among the fastest laptops with the RTX 4090 (Laptop) tested by us, and it is certainly fast enough to allow for proper UHD 2160p gaming.
