Legend of Zelda movie trailer or Nintendo Direct may be imminent after cast member leak

The September Zelda 40th Anniversary Nintendo Direct largely focused on the Ocarina of Time remake. Some fans anticipated seeing the initial trailer for The Legend of Zelda movie. While the gaming giant updated the title and release date, the showcase lacked footage from the film. That could change soon, following a new rumor and hint from a cast member.

Leak or wild guess?

Paul Gale is a veteran journalist and content creator with sources in the gaming industry. Not all his leaks have proven accurate, but the gamer did predict strong third-party support for the Switch 2. A recent social media post piqued readers' curiosity, saying, “If you like Zelda, stay tuned for tomorrow.”

Gale later suggested a Legend of Zelda movie trailer or teaser was a strong possibility for September 22nd. He then shared an Instagram story from Bo Bragason, who plays the Princess in the live-action production. The key addition to the cast said she was “excited for tomorrow.”

The actress could have been referring to another project or event in her personal life. Still, combined with Gale’s earlier comments, many fans are anticipating news from Nintendo or distributor Sony Pictures.

Why a standalone Direct looms

As it did with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Nintendo will likely announce a film-oriented Direct eventually. Even so, skeptics point out that the September 8th 40th Anniversary celebration happened recently. The company could have at least debuted a teaser when it had a captive audience.

On the other hand, the critical 30-minute presentation included gameplay from the Ocarina of Time remake. Since Nintendo needed to reveal its release date and price, it risked overshadowing its holiday attraction. Sony may also prefer a separate event to promote The Legend of Zelda movie.

The Direct did confirm that the film will tell an original story, drawing from the plot various Zelda games. Yet other than Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as the Princess, the rest of the cast remains a mystery. A trailer would also give the first glimpse of what the live-action undertaking looks like in motion.
