MWC 2024 | Tecno Pocket Go: Unusual gaming handheld arrives combining AR Glasses and controller with embedded AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS APU
Tecno has unveiled its first attempt at producing a gaming handheld. However, the Tecno Pocket Go takes a completely different shape to popular contemporaries like the Steam Deck or ASUS ROG Ally. Instead, the Tecno Pocket Go is closer in essence to the Pimax Portal or the Lenovo Legion Go when paired with the Legion Glasses.
Even then, Tecno has attempted to redefine what a gaming handheld actually is, with the company completely removing a conventional display. Specifically, the Pocket Go is a controller, within which sits a 35 W processor that runs Windows 11. According to Tecno, the Pocket relies upon the Ryzen 7 8840HS, an octa-core and 28 W APU that features a Radeon 780M integrated GPU.
Additionally, Tecno complements the Hawk Point HS APU with 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD and a 50 Wh replaceable battery. While these components are reminiscent of a modern laptop, the Pocket Go has a fairly limited port selection. Specifically, Tecno has included a pair of USB Type-C ports, a 3.5 mm jack and a MicroSD card slot, plus two buttons for controlling its accompanying AR glasses.
Supposedly, the latter can create up to 215-inch projections at a distance of 6 metres through its two 0.71-inch Micro OLED displays. On top of that, the AR glasses support head tracking and diopter correction. Unfortunately, Tecno has not shared many other details yet, such as an approximate release date or launch pricing.
