RedMagic 8S Pro unleashed on rest of world to lead Android gaming smartphone market in mid-2023

RedMagic has invited its fans who live outside China to join the "Winners' Circle" with the 8S Pro. It is touted as the ultimate form of the OEM's Android gaming flagship smartphone with the "strongest" version of the top-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC to drive its "most advanced" 6.8-inch, 93.7% screen-to-body ratio AMOLED display. However, not all of its most ground-breaking specs have found their way to new markets.

The 8S Pro has touched down on the international stage as its OEM's highest-end smartphone of 2023. To that end, it is in fact the 8 Pro from earlier in the year, albeit one with upgrades to the Leading Version of that flagship smartphone's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and an updated ICE 12.0 cooling system reserved for it.

Accordingly, the 8 Pro and 8S Pro have the same nearly bezel-less, FHD/120Hz/1,300-nit display that delivers a "true full-screen" experience thanks to a second-gen UDC selfie camera. However, it is driven by a CPU and GPU at their highest possible speeds (3.36GHz and 719MHz respectively), for a performance boost over the 'original' 8 Gen 2 rated at up to 33%, in the newer version. According to RedMagic, that should net the user consistent 59.9 fps "vivid, quality" gaming for 2 hours straight.

The refreshed flagship smartphone's battery should also be able to handle that, thanks to its market-leading 6,000mAh capacity. Then again, its Global Edition's top charging rate has been downgraded to 65W rather than 165W as in the Chinese-market version. However, it makes up for that somewhat by coming with its own branded, GaN-enhanced power brick in the box.

The 8S Pro also boasts class-leading LPDDR5X RAM and "3.5GB/s" UFS 4.0 internal storage - which was maxed out to 24GB and 1TB respectively on the device's Chinese-market launch. Unfortunately, however, this ground-breaking configuration has not made it to the smartphone's new international version...next year, perhaps.

Nevertheless, the RedMagic 8S Pro (Global) keeps it interesting by giving each of the RAM/storage SKUs it does have its own colorway. The 12/256GB base model comes in the smartphone's Midnight (black) finish, whereas the top-end 16/512GB option comes in Platinum (silver).

The latter also gets its own special "Aurora" edition that puts the signature RedMagic RGB "centrifugal fan" on show through a window in its faux-transparent rear panel. The 8S Pro in Midnight has been priced at US$649/€649/£580, while the Platinum version is US$779/€779/£689, and the Aurora a little more at US$799/€799/£709.

Their availability at all these new prices is set to start on July 27, 2023 with the Early Bird phase of its sales, followed by an Early Access event on August 2 and open sales from the following day.
