Acer to out a Chrome OS netbook and a Tablet PC later this year

Apparently, Acer is working hard to be world’s top PC manufacturer and supplier

According to a Bloomberg report, the company Acer is readying a netbook or a low-cost notebook, which will come with Google’s Chrome operating system. The company wants to be among the first to out such a non-Wintel device.

Chrome is the long anticipated operating system which will appear later this year in netbooks. Allegedly, Acer will include the OS in “at least” 10 percent of its mini-laptops expected to enter the market in Q3 of 2010.

“For Chrome, we’re aggressively pursuing to become one of the first, so there’s a change to the Microsoft-Intel environment,” said Jim Wong, President of IT Products at Acer.

Supposedly, the Taiwan-based PC manufacturer will launch an ARM-based and SSD-sporting netbook with Google’s operating system. According to Chairman J.T. Wang, Acer can overtake HP and be on top by the end of 2013 with the addition of an Acer Tablet and Chrome mini-notebook.

Acer Tablet is reportedly also in the works. The company is probably just waiting to see how the Apple’s one does after it is released.

“We’re developing something, and we will see what happens” said Wang. “We’re going to work either in the Windows world or in Google’s defined OS space.”
