CeBIT 2010 First-hand: Medion shows off the X7811 gamers’ laptop

It carries the ATI HD5870 for enhanced graphics

Medion did not have an independent stall at this CeBIT, but that did not stop them from unveiling a promising gaming laptop with enough configurations to let you play even the most demanding games. The Gamer suffix to X7811 is not just a marketing gimmick – it actually highly efficient hardware at an attractive price.

The X7811 sports a 17-inch LED backlit display panel with a resolution of 1,680 x 1050 pixels, and is powered by an Intel Core i7 720QM processor. Users also get an option of i7 820QM. The graphics card present is the latest ATI HD5870 with 1 GB GDDR5 video memory, making it probably the fastest mobile memory card today. Medion offers a 4GB DDR3 RAM as the icing on the cake.

The audio capability is immense too. The laptop comes with a Subwoofer (can be fitted to the bottom). What we get after the fitting is four speakers Dolby Home Theater System v3.

As far as the chassis is concerned, Medion takes a hint from the likes of MSI. There are even the red WASD keys, like many of MSI notebooks. The exterior and interior (except the keyboard and monitor areas) have brushed Aluminum metal that give the system an expensive look. The keyboard and monitor areas are covered in matte black color that thankfully should not attract grease and fingerprints. The keyboard is relatively comfortable, although it pains me to see so much of space left unused on both sides of the keyboard. The LED indicators are at the top of the keyboard. The touchpad is situated just below the keyboard a little left from middle, with the two mouse-buttons below it. On the left side you get the USB, microphone, mic and VGA port among others, along with a datacard slot. Two more USB ports are present on the left along with the HDMI and LAN output and the optical drive.

Nevertheless, it is possible that Medion, with this real value for money gaming laptop at 999 euros ($135), can penetrate a sizeable market. The X7811 is only available through online shop and expected to start shipping in the beginning of April. Keep watching our review section for detailed review when the sample arrives.
