Apple’s new MacBook Pro could boost OLED laptop shipments by more than 40 % in 2027

Apple’s entry into OLED laptops is expected to accelerate the market’s growth, with global OLED notebook shipments forecast to rise by more than 40 % year over year in 2027, following a similar increase expected in 2026. Research firm TrendForce expects the OLED laptop category to keep expanding even as the broader notebook market declines for a second straight year.
Until now, OLED laptop growth has come mainly from Lenovo, HP and Asus, which have introduced OLED panels across a range of price points. TrendForce believes Apple’s move will encourage other manufacturers to prioritize OLED displays and could improve consumer acceptance of the technology.
The new MacBook Pro uses a tandem OLED touchscreen, but its $2,899 starting price for the 14-inch model may limit how quickly buyers upgrade. Apple is also continuing to sell Mini-LED MacBook Pro models, giving customers a lower-cost alternative. TrendForce estimates that Apple’s new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display will ship 1.2–1.5 million units next year.
Samsung Display is currently the exclusive supplier of OLED panels for the new MacBook Pro. Apple’s order has been assigned to Phase 1 of Samsung’s G8.6 A6 production line in Asan, South Korea, making the MacBook Pro the first product to enter mass production on that fine metal mask OLED line.
The MacBook Pro’s 254-ppi tandem OLED display presents demanding manufacturing requirements, particularly around material costs and yields. TrendForce says this explains why LG Display, BOE and TCL CSOT are instead working to qualify for the OLED MacBook Air, which it expects to arrive in 2029.
