Gurman: Apple to unveil OLED MacBook Pro with touchscreen in days, alongside M6 iMac

Apple has scheduled a product showcase in Los Angeles for October 28, where it is expected to unveil its first MacBook Pro with a touchscreen. The redesigned laptop is reportedly getting an OLED display, a slimmer and lighter body, and a Dynamic Island-style cutout. Apple is also preparing an updated iMac with a new M6 chip and additional color options, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.
OLED, touchscreen and Dynamic Island mark a major MacBook Pro redesign
A touchscreen MacBook Pro would mark a significant shift for Apple, which has never equipped its Mac laptops with touchscreens, reserving touch input for devices such as the iPad. The new MacBook Pro is expected to come in 14-inch and 16-inch versions, retaining the familiar design while making the laptops thinner and lighter.
The switch to OLED should bring deeper blacks and higher contrast than the mini-LED panels used in current MacBook Pro models. The display is also expected to feature a Dynamic Island-style cutout at the top, similar to the one found on recent iPhones. It would replace the existing notch and provide space for interactive elements.
Apple is reportedly working on changes to macOS to make touch input feel more natural without turning the Mac into an oversized iPad. The interface is expected to adapt depending on whether users interact with the screen or use a trackpad. For example, touching a button could bring up a menu with larger controls positioned around the user's finger.
The new OLED models are expected to use Apple's existing M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, which debuted in March. Their main upgrades will therefore be the display, design and input options rather than a new generation of chips. The more expensive OLED panels could also push starting prices up by as much as $500 compared with current models, which start at $2,499 for the 14-inch version and $2,999 for the 16-inch model in the US.
Apple is not expected to discontinue its existing MacBook Pro models with mini-LED displays immediately. They will remain available alongside the new touchscreen versions for a time, giving customers a less expensive alternative. Apple may also unveil a new entry-level MacBook Pro on October 28, reportedly featuring a M6 processor but retaining a conventional display without OLED technology.
iMac to get an M6 chip and new colors
The MacBook Pro is not the only Mac expected to receive an update. Apple is also preparing a refreshed 24-inch iMac with an M6 processor, replacing the current 2024 model powered by the M4 chip.
The new all-in-one desktop is reportedly set to bring new color options, although the specific shades have not been revealed. Beyond the processor and colors, major design changes are not expected.
Apple is also reportedly developing an iMac with an OLED display, but that model is still several years away.
