Apple has finally overhauled its MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16 laptops with a new design. Available to order from October 28, the new 14-inch and 16-inch laptops combine 2,000-nit OLED displays, thinner designs and much lighter chassis.

Apple has finally unveiled its brand-new MacBook Pro, replacing the existing MacBook Pro generation with M5 Pro and M5 Max chipsets (curr. $2,799 on Amazon). For context, the company's latest release arrives hot on the heels of its MacBook Pro 14 refresh with an Apple M6 chipset.

However, the new MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16 depart from Apple's existing options with multiple changes. For instance, Apple's 14-inch laptop has dropped to 1.4 kg with a 15 mm thick case. Similarly, the MacBook Pro 16-inch has trimmed roughly 280 g to reach 1.84 kg with a 16 mm thick case.

Joining these changes is Apple's long-awaited adoption of OLED displays. Branded 'PROLED XDR Display', this new Tandem OLED panel boasts up to 2,000 nits peak brightness, 1,000 nits full-panel brightness and a 10-120 Hz variable refresh rate. Not only has Apple replaced the existing notch with a punch-hole, but it has also added touchscreen support for the first time.

According to Apple, it has optimised macOS 27 Golden Gate with multitouch gestures comparable to those offered in iPadOS. Elsewhere, 72.6 Wh and 100 Wh batteries return for 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, respectively, as well as MagSafe, Thunderbolt 5 and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. Apple has kept its existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chipsets in place, though.

The MacBook Pro with a 'PROLED XDR Display' is available to order from today in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. Currently, prices start at $2,899 for the 14-inch model and $3,399 for its 16-inch counterpart. Pre-orders will start shipping on November 6.

The new MacBook Pro can be optioned with nano-texture glass, too.
