Apple unveils MacBook Pro with Apple M6 and 1,600-nit display for $1,999

As expected, Apple today refreshed the most affordable 14-inch MacBook Pro ($1,837 on Amazon), one day before the more expensive models are expected to receive a new design and an OLED touchscreen. The base model retains the familiar design and receives only one significant upgrade: the Apple M6.
According to Apple, the ARM chip with two super cores, four performance cores, six efficiency cores and a twelve-core GPU delivers 20 to 30 percent better performance than the Apple M5, depending on the application. The chip is paired with 16 GB to 32 GB of RAM with a bandwidth of 153 GB/s to 170 GB/s, as well as a 1 TB to 4 TB SSD. Combined with a 72.4 Wh battery, the new MacBook Pro is said to offer 24 hours of video streaming or 16 hours of web browsing on a single charge.
The rest of the specifications remain unchanged. As before, Apple includes a 14.2-inch, 120 Hz Mini-LED display with a resolution of 3,024 x 1,964 pixels and a peak HDR brightness of 1,600 nits, as well as three Thunderbolt 4 ports (USB-C), alongside HDMI, MagSafe 3 for charging and an SDXC slot. The MacBook Pro supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread, and features six speakers. The laptop is 1.55 cm thick and weighs 1.55 kg.
Pricing and availability
The new 14-inch MacBook Pro with Apple M6 will be available to preorder from October 28 in the Apple Online Store with deliveries starting on November 6. The base model with 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD costs $1,999, the same as its predecessor. Apple charges an additional $150 for a nano-texture display, while 24 GB of RAM costs an extra $200 and 32 GB of RAM costs an extra $400.
