Shockingly Poor: Apple iPhone Duo fails after only 75,000 folds in human testing

Mere days after launch, users are reporting that the Apple iPhone Duo can develop lines on the inner display. However, the exact cause is still unknown. iFixit’s teardown points to the hinge of the iPhone Duo as the troublemaker. While Apple is now offering users free replacements, those replacements could develop the issue as well if the hinge is indeed problematic.
After JerryRigEverything exposed that the iPhone Duo’s hinge doesn’t like dust, despite being IP68 rated, Polish YouTuber Kuba Klawiter has also revealed shockingly poor durability for the iPhone Duo’s hinge mechanism.
In a test where the YouTuber livestreamed the folding and unfolding of the iPhone Duo by different people, the iPhone Duo failed after only 75,000 folds. The phone kept going trouble-free for 50,000 folds. The YouTuber then introduced dust into the mix, which was meant to simulate pocket dust that the iPhone Duo would have to contend with in the real world. This was followed by the iPhone Duo’s crease looking way worse after 60,000 folds.
Finally, the YouTuber placed the iPhone Duo in ice to simulate Poland’s harsh winters. It is at this point that the iPhone Duo gave up, as the inner display developed lines after 75,003 folds. These lines look similar to what we have been seeing in other faulty iPhone Duo units.
Now, the real kicker here is that, in a similar test, the older Galaxy Z Flip 5 lasted for over 400,000 folds. This is sure to give Samsung more ammunition to go after Apple, as the Korean giant has already started mocking the iPhone Duo for its poor durability.
All in all, it is quite disappointing and painful to see Apple’s first foldable smartphone fail in this way. While we have no indication of the issue's extent and it might affect only a small number of units, the optics are definitely damning for Cupertino.
