Cozy fantasy game lets players become a witch in a dark forest – 35% launch discount

The fantasy adventure from German indie studio Emberstorm Entertainment puts players in the role of a witch living in a dark fairy-tale forest, with a strong emphasis on relaxing gameplay. To celebrate the full release on Steam, the developers are currently offering a 35% launch discount. That brings the price of REKA down to just $12.99 instead of $19.99 until November 7. A free demo is also available.
REKA draws inspiration from Eastern European folklore. And this isn't just about any witch – the game revolves around the legendary Baba Yaga. Players don't actually take on her role, however. Instead, they become a young apprentice learning the ways of witchcraft under her guidance – and the experience is considerably more relaxing than one might expect. Players explore misty forests, visit villages, complete quests and gradually learn the art of witchcraft.
There is no combat or time pressure in REKA. Instead, the game revolves around cozy crafting, exploration and an atmospheric dark fairy-tale setting. Daily witchcraft activities include gathering herbs, brewing potions and befriending woodland animals. Just like in the legend of Baba Yaga, players live in a witch's house that walks around on enormous chicken legs – and it's a central part of the experience. The house can be expanded, decorated and furnished with all kinds of magical trinkets.
On Steam, REKA has received around 3,600 user reviews, with 82% being positive. However, most of these reviews were written during Early Access. The 150 most recent reviews paint a noticeably more positive picture, with an approval rating of 88%, suggesting that the full release is off to a promising start. Players appreciate the unusual setting and atmospheric presentation, with the house-building mechanics receiving particular praise. However, REKA reportedly lacks variety, both in its quests and its game world. Anyone who wants to try the game before buying can download the free demo on Steam. The witch-themed adventure is also Steam Deck Verified.
