Leica M10 and M11: "Konami Code" reveals secret menu and surprising M10 feature

The Leica M10 was announced in January 2017, almost ten years ago. Now, Chinese users have discovered a secret menu that is somewhat reminiscent of the Konami Code, as opening it requires entering a button combination after selecting "Regulatory Information" under "Camera Information" in the main menu.
The "Play" button must then be held down while pressing up, right, down, left, up on the D-pad in sequence. After that, the "Play" button must be briefly released, pressed again, and the D-pad operated in the opposite direction, i.e. up, left, down, right, up. If this button combination is entered correctly, a service menu opens.
As our hands-on test has shown, this also works on the Leica M11. Once this menu is open, users have access to a range of useful functions. For example, the remaining battery capacity can be displayed. Or the total shutter count – potentially important information when buying a used Leica M10 or M11. Most curious of all, however, is that this menu includes a function called "Touchscreen Test" even on the Leica M10.
When this menu item is selected, the camera's display can actually be used as a touchscreen – even though Leica says the camera does not have a touchscreen, and the Leica M10-P is marketed as the "first M with touch functionality". It is conceivable, but unlikely, that Leica will finally enable the camera's touchscreen via a firmware update after almost a decade.
