NEC Lavie has introduced the Tab T12N Tablet in Japan, powered by an 8-core SoC and 8 GB of RAM, the 12.1-inch tablet supports pen input and should be a decent choice for content consumption and lightweight productivity.

Alongside the Lavie X14 laptop and Tab T8 tablet, which we covered in separate articles, Japanese conglomerate NEC has also introduced a rather large 12-inch tablet, dubbed the Lavie Tab T12N.

This premium tablet features a 12.1-inch liquid-crystal display with a resolution of 2560 by 1600. Lavie claims a peak brightness of up to 800 nits, as well as a 90 Hz refresh rate for relatively smooth operation.

At its core, the Tab T12N tablet is powered by a mid-range MediaTek Dimensity 6400 SoC paired with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. A single USB 2.0 Type-C port is present, alongside a microSD slot for storage expansion.

According to our expansive database of benchmarks, the Dimensity 6400 SoC should be able to score roughly 2,000 points in Geekbench 6.7. This is the same SoC that powers the Lenovo Idea Tab Plus tablet (currently $270 on Lenovo US) and should be good enough for lightweight casual tasks.

The same goes for the SoC's iGPU performance. Some lightweight gaming is definitely doable, but customers are advised to temper their expectations.

The Lavie Tab T12N features a 12.1-inch 2.5K display.

The 6.3-mm thin Lavie Tab T12N also comes equipped with a 10,200 mAh battery, which grants it roughly 13 hours of wireless web browsing according to the brand. The tablet weighs in at 530 g, which is typical for a tablet of its size.

The tablet also supports pen input, including Lavie's Digital Pen 3 with 4,096 levels of pressure detection, tilt detection, palm rejection, and USB-C charging. The Tab T12N only ships with a single colorway: gray.

More features, pricing, and availability

Other notable features include a quad-speaker setup with Dolby Atmos certification, 8 MP front camera, a 13 MP rear camera, and Android 16 out of the box.

The Lavie Tab T12N tablet is already available for purchase in Japan, priced at ¥99,800, or roughly $633. NEC has limited presence in the international market, making the Lavie Tab T12N's U.S. debut quite unlikely.

Of course, interested customers can always take advantage of shipment forwarding programs if they do not mind the hassle of importing.

The tablet ships with an included pen and a keyboard folio made from PU leather.
