Even better than an iPad Pro in our review: Android tablet with outstanding sound at half the price

In our review of the MatePad Air (2026), the new Huawei tablet proves extremely capable in several areas. Not only is the PaperMatte OLED panel in a class of its own in the mid-range segment, but the speaker system also demonstrates the quality of the MatePad Air (2026). Find out why the Huawei tablet is not the best choice for everyone in our review.
Our pink noise measurements show better results for the mid-range Android tablet than for the iPad Pro
A direct comparison of our pink noise measurements quickly makes it clear that Huawei's mid-range tablet can compete at the very top of the high-end segment when it comes to sound. Its advantages over an Apple iPad Pro 11 (2026) (available on amazon.com). start with the maximum sound pressure level. Here, we measure over 87 dB(A) for the MatePad Air, higher than the Apple tablet's roughly 84 dB(A). Huawei thus offers extra volume headroom that can prove useful in everyday situations with loud background noise.
The MatePad Air also performs very well in our pink noise measurements beyond maximum volume. Hardly any tablet in the medium-sized 11- to 12-inch category offers this much depth. While Huawei delivers noticeable bass, you have to listen closely to hear it on an iPad Pro 11. Even a 13-inch iPad Pro falls short here.
The MatePad Air (2026) also performs admirably in the midrange and high frequencies. Our measurements show a very linear overall sound profile. Anyone who values loud, clear sound from their tablet will find the MatePad Air a rewarding choice in the mid-range segment. Especially since Huawei also offers more for the money than Apple's iPads when it comes to Bluetooth and the selection of codecs.
