Digital Chat Station has weighed in on the state of the next iPhone Air. Currently, Apple is expected to deliver its second-generation Air as the iPhone Air 2. However, it is worth noting that the existing model was initially rumoured to arrive as the iPhone 17 Air.
Setting naming aside, Digital Chat Station reiterates that the iPhone Air 2 will depart from its predecessor in a few areas. For instance, the upcoming iPhone should pivot to Apple's A20 series architecture, likely the Apple A20 Pro based on previous rumours. Moreover, this faster chipset is anticipated to be joined by a larger battery capacity.
Unfortunately, Digital Chat Station has not elaborated further in this regard. Instead, they have focused on Apple adding a 48 MP ultra-wide-angle camera, which will join the existing 48 MP primary sensor found in the eponymous iPhone Air. Reportedly, this new camera will fit inside a 5.2 mm thick housing too, a 0.4 mm generation-on-generation reduction.
By contrast, the same leaker asserts that Apple will release its second-generation Air with a 6.55-inch OLED display, matching its predecessor (curr. $725 - refurbished on Amazon). Not only that, but LTPO backplane support will return for a 120 Hz variable refresh rate to complement its 1.5K resolution. For now, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone Air 2 in early 2027 alongside the cheaper iPhone 18.
