Does GTA 6 extend into Georgia? Fans discover buildings 900 km from Miami

Fans have been comparing buildings from GTA 6 with real-world locations and have discovered two striking similarities. Interestingly, the buildings aren't located in Florida but in the small town of Gay in neighboring Georgia. Both can be seen in one of the 12 new screenshots from Edge magazine's recent cover story, which also revealed intriguing details about the world beyond Vice City.

The red brick building, which appears to be a bar in GTA 6, is particularly convincing. It looks almost identical to a real building in the small Georgia town, right down to the placement of its doors and windows. The only noticeable differences are the color of the wooden trim around the doors and windows and the presence of another building next to the bar in GTA 6.

"Trotsman's Supermarket," visible in the background of the GTA 6 screenshot, may also be based on a real building in Georgia. The resemblance isn't quite as close in this case, however. While the upper facade, including its decorative details and rectangular recess, looks almost identical, the entrance appears to be centered on the real building but positioned to the left in the game.
Could GTA 6's map really extend into Georgia?
Gay is a small town in Meriwether County, Georgia, with a population of just 110 according to the 2020 US Census. It lies roughly 930 kilometers (578 miles) from Miami as the crow flies. Could this mean that GTA 6 (available for pre-order on Amazon) will feature areas inspired by Georgia? It's certainly possible, although Rockstar hasn't confirmed that either building served as a reference. Still, the similarities are hard to ignore and suggest that Rockstar may be drawing inspiration from locations beyond Florida. Given the anticipated size of GTA 6's map, it's not entirely out of the question that the game's world could extend into areas inspired by neighboring states. The discovery has also sparked discussion on Reddit. While some users consider a map stretching into Georgia plausible, others believe Rockstar is simply borrowing architectural details from different parts of the US to bring its fictional state of Leonida to life.
