Asus W5Fe - 12" SideShow Notebook at the CeBIT
The ASUS W5Fe with integrated mini-computer uses the feature of the Windows Vista operating system to execute smaller applications independent of the notebook.
At the CeBIT 2007 we had the joy of looking at the new Asus W5Fe - the first SideShow notebook. This 12 inch business notebook with reflecting display is equipped with a second mini computer with 2,8" QVGA TFT placed at the display cover. It is connected to the laptop by USB and its 1 Gigabyte NAND memory makes it possible to execute Windows Vista SideShow programs on the display cover.
Music, pictures and the last 100 e-mails can be synchronized there to be able to access them quickly without the need of turning on the laptop. However, this mini-computer cannot access the laptop's hard disk and works more or less independent of the "main" computer (it can access the speakers). In order to receive data, it is automatically synchronized upon turning off the main computer. So, it is also not possible to receive new e-mails with it. Therefore, this small computer seems to be more or less a gadget.
