AMD's future plans regarding processors
Danube in 2010, followed by Sabine in 2011
AMD seems to be busy working around with new technology especially with the processors that form the heart of your very own notebooks. Coming Q2 2010 AMD plans to launch a series of processors for notebooks based on the Danube platform. First up is the Phenom II Quad-core mobile N920 processor which has 2MB of cache memory, 128-bit FPU precision, and DDR3 1333MHz support. Next in line is the Phenom II triple-core N820 mobile processor which is basically similar to the N920 as discussed earlier, but with one core having disabled. The mobile N820 processor will have 1.5Mb of cache, 128-bit FPU precision, DDR3 1333MHz support, and hyper transport at 3.6GT/s.
AMD is also planning to roll out AMD Athlon II Neo Dual core K325 processor which has two cores, 2MB of cache, 64-bit FPU, DDR 800MHz support, 12W TDP, and a hyper transport at 2GT/s. Another processor named the AMD Turion II Neo Dua-Core K625 will also be released around the same time. The only difference between the K625 and K325 is that the former has a 15W TDP with HT at 3.2GT/s while the later has a 12W TDP with HT at 2.0GT/s. Moreover, there is also a single core processor being launched which is called the AMD's Athlon II Neo Processor that has 12W TDP, 1MB cache, 64-bit FPU, DDR 800MHz support and HT at 2.0GT/s.
As I told you AMD is keeping itself real busy in order to keep up to the competition posed by Intel’s Core i5 and Core i7 processors. In order to keep itself in the league AMD will launch the Llano CPU-GPU fusion processor based on the Sabine platform in 2011. The Llano includes DirectX11 class graphics with a TDP between 8W to 15W. The southbridge used on this platform called the Hudson M2 (codename) will have DDR3 1600MHz memory support, USB 3.0 support, 4X PCIe slots, 6SATA with RAID and CIR support. It is being said that the Sabine platform will replace the Danube platform in the year 2011. Well, lets just wait and watch.
